Defective Medical Device Lawyers You Can Trust

Medical devices are designed to offer patients state-of-the-art options for treating their health concerns. These devices can serve as a replacement for protective tissue, restore mobility and prevent pregnancy. However, when the integrity of these products is compromised, they can also lead to serious complications. If you or a loved one has suffered injuries as the result of faulty medical equipment, our lawyers at D’Amico Law Offices, LLC, are here to help.

Hernia Mesh Lawsuits

A hernia is a common medical condition in which organs or tissue protrudes from abdominal muscles. Surgical procedures to correct these issues often involve the use of a device known as hernia mesh, which acts as a protective lining to strengthen weakened muscle. In some cases, they’ve contributed to a successful recovery and a positive outcome. However, there can be severe complications that result from the use of hernia mesh, such as infections, adhesions and bowel obstructions. Painful side effects and manufacturer recalls prompted the removal of hernia mesh from many patients. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), over 200,000 hernia mesh products were recalled between 2005 and 2018, including devices manufactured by Atrium Medical, Bard Davol and Ethicon.

Hip Implant Lawsuits

While designed to decrease pain, increase mobility and improve quality of life, some hip implants have been found to cause more problems than others. In particular, patients who received ASR and Pinnacle hip implants from DePuy Orthopedics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, have reported having trouble standing or walking, hip pain, implant loosening and even metal poisoning after their surgeries. The ASR implant has been recalled, and Johnson & Johnson has paid out over $1 billion in lawsuits to patients who received Pinnacle hip replacement devices.

Essure Lawsuits

Many women seeking effective, long-term contraceptives enjoy the benefits of implantable birth control options. After it was released, Essure became a popular option as a permanent birth control treatment. Instead of surgery, the procedure required two tiny metal springs to be placed inside of the fallopian tubes. Though the device was considered safe, thousands of women who chose Essure began to experience serious side effects, such as severe pain, persisting cramps, internal bleeding, neurological damage and even death. While Essure is still available as a birth control option, the FDA has added numerous labeling changes, including a black box warning about the potential risks. In 2018, Essure’s manufacturer took the product off of the market.
